Has privacy been lost?
Recently mass surveillance has been controversial. Younger generations approve of certain privacy being taken away from them; however the elders believe certain of their personal information should be confidential and no one has the right to know unless they want them to.
In Glen Greenwalds ' "Why privacy matters" TED talk, he shared his discovery about people. He realized that when people are aware that they are being monitored, they change their attitudes. For this reason when people are surrounded by others, they tend to make decisions that the crowd would expect rather than what they really want.
Greenwald focal point was on people that tend to change their answers when surrounded by others or being monitored, as well as stating that people in a higher power position like Eric Schmidt, like to have control over people to expand his beliefs. On the contrary, I believe that people who hold power are not the only ones that have control over people. Common people control others behavior without even intending to do so. This can especially be seen with people who spend time on social media.
Greenwald really focuses on the issue that although people argue that privacy is not important to them, they still act a different way when they are surrounded by others. When they are alone, they tend to act a certain way; however, when they are surrounded by others, they tend to make decisions based on what the crowd would. People tend to lose individuality once surrounded by others. People suddenly have no personal opinions, some even let others answer for them. They tend to conform to what the majority wants rather
