Community Harvest project (CHP) has taught me so many skills, besides just gaining experience in the nutrition field. I learned a little about farm work, how to work as a team and become more of a leader and educate the community. I was able to discover what specific skills are needed for nutrition education. We know that practical experience is the best, and internships like this give students that hand-on experience they need. This experience pushed my strengths and weaknesses working as a nutrition educator. I am confident that everything that I was able to learn during my time interning at CHP is going to served me, as I will be coming out of this experience with more guidance on where I want to take my career along with valuable skills. I really enjoyed having two sides to my internship; one being education, and the other being outside experiencing what kind of farm work they do at CHP. Throughout my time at CHP I have had many eye opening experiences. One memorable moment during my internship took place on a Saturday when a group of biology students came from Assumption College. I still want to do education within the community, but I think I would enjoy working with older adults rather than children. Although my internship consisted just of teaching children, I still believe is really important, I do not think it is my strong suit and would be a better fit in front of a different audience. I would like to start my career at a non-profit similar to CHP. I really enjoyed the outside aspect and learning about the farm work at CHP. I really surprised myself when working with the Jen and Annie and felt accomplished at the end of everyday seeing how many the volunteers where able to get done.
