I had the opportunity to attend a Protestant church in downtown Ann Arbor, called Harvest Mission Community Church. Harvest Mission is a non-denominational Church that is mostly dominated by multiple of Asian cultures. There was over 150 people attending the church services on the 22nd of November and the Pastor is giving a three part sermon about Racism, Sexuality, and Environment. The talk on I attended was on sexuality and how to keep our bodies pure. It sermon was giving by Pastor Peter Dahlem, who is the lead pastor in the Ann Arbor Location of this church. I found out when I went there, that this church has multiple locations scattered across the world; the other location is in Hong Kong, China.
It was difficult to attend this church service, because of the fact that it's different from the usually church service that I'm more comfortable being around. I have been Catholic for an 8 month, but been attending a Catholic mass for 2 years. The ways I found it different then a Catholic Mass was that the church service only have communion once a month, they don't believe that Jesus is alive in the Eucharist, and they

He been this interest for the past 4 years as he has been a student at the University of Michigan. He said one thing you like about the church was that the pastor always gave good sermons, which really relate to a person’s life. At the end of the church service, I remember seeing students that are willing to talk to me more about their faith within Harvest Mission. I spoke this one girl named Rachel, who is in grad student at the University of Michigan, and her thoughts was that the students decide to stay close to a non-denominational church because it is not all about what denomination you are, but the fact of that we all love God the same as any other denomination. To this day I find it interesting that people can have a strong Christian faith without being in a certain

Missional God, Missional Church, packed a lot of content into the first set of reading. Upon reading pages 37-79, I feel that the main focus of the reading was to discuss how the Western Churches have become disconnected from culture and are starting to break free from culture as well. I feel that the author was trying to show that we have become confused in what culture truly is. Early on in the reading, the author states that culture does have positive attributes, such as beauty. Beauty in dress style, the music, and the dialects.…

The book “Why Church Matters: Discovering your place in the Family of God” by Joshua Harris influenced my perspective, opinion, and the decision about the church. Firstly, this book helped me to develop a different point of view of the local church. Before I was not giving so much importance to it. For me, belonging to a universal church was better than belonging to the local one. I did not want to commit to a place where sometimes people lead with their own desires.…

These two churches are different, two different faiths, but have the same goal. This goal is to have people convert to their faith.…

It is like a breath of fresh air. Not only is it convenient, but more importantly it is truly a Christ-centered church and there is no question about it. This church really strives to glorify God in all that they do, and they are not ashamed to admit their own faults and their dependency on Jesus to serve the church and the surrounding community. The amount of transparency the leaders show is admirable. So far I have learned that God wants us to love mercy.…

If Christianity as a religion has played significant roles in the history of the United States, the place of worship must also have an important meaning. John Smith, the earliest colonial leader of Jamestown, New Jersey, described the first Christian church built in the colony as "a homely thing like a barn set on crachetts, covered with rafts, sedge and earth" (“Jamestown Churches”). The picture of this structure in the imagination seems like an ordinary house made of logs and a thatch roof; it was not a sophisticated design as a church. Of course, as many of historical records show, the earliest colonial period was the toughest time in the history of migration, and the “homely thing” was the best product they could have constructed at the…
