Since 2012 and continuing now in 2017, Harvard Pilgrim has gone above and beyond CSR especially in the area of giving back to the local community. Ever since the Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Foundation in 1980 was founded, the customer satisfaction rating has increased and Harvard Pilgrim has become one of the top rated HMO providers in the New England area and across the United States. According to The Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General there were three major components to the Healthy Food Fund that makes them have a good CSR rating. Healthcare was set up to train specifically pediatric healthcare professionals in offices and hospitals in the Worcester County area about childhood obesity and ways of prevention. This program has now spread across the New England area and has a main office at The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Maine. The Let’s Go! Healthcare program uses a system called the 5-2-1-0. This process was determined by a group of pediatric doctors and nutritionist. The five stands for five or more fruits and vegetables per day. The two is for two hours or less of recreational screen time (i.e. Disney, Nickelodeon). The one stands for one hour or more of physical activity per day. And the zero is for zero sugary drinks per day.
