Harry S. Truman was the 33rd president of the United States of America. He was aprt of the democratic party. Truman also served as an U.S senator in Missouri from 1935-1945 and shortly as vice president for President Roosevelt before he died, and Truman who suddenly thrust into the presidential light of the trying times of the 1940’s, while serving as vice president for president Roosevelt, he only served officially 82 days as (V.P) before president Roosevelt died. He had to take on an incredible workload from Roosevelt, and Truman was constanly faced with difficult decisions as president. He had to make the decision to drop both atomic bombs in Japan (Hiroshima, Nagasaki). What makes matters worse is that Truman was blindsided by the fact …show more content…
Truman only served officially 82 days as Franklin D. Roosevelt’s vice president, before Roosevelt died during his term, soon afterwards Truman would be sworn in as the 33rd president of the United States at the age of 61 on April 12,1945. Truman was faced with many issues in his first few months in office, a large reason he was faced with many issues is because while he was serving as vice president, he and President Roosevelt rarely met to discuss issues and new developments. Their lack of communication would become very apparent as Truman had no idea that the U.S was developing an atomic bomb during WWI and he had to make the difficult decision of dropping an atomic bomb on Japan in the mist of world war II which his decision is what ultimately ended the …show more content…
Truman as the leader of the free world took a lot of flak for his decisions of dropping the atomic bombs in japan because people felt as though he didn’t have to go that far, but ask yourself if you were under the same circumstances how would you react to these issues. There wasn’t any right decision to make it, the only choice was to make the decision that saved the most lives and saved the most money. Truman felt as though if we continued to fight, both sides would have exhausted their militaries, and also exhausted their countries finically destroying both countries
