“Yes, books are dangerous. They should be dangerous- they contain ideas” (Hautman). Pete Hautman was indeed correct. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has been banned. Books offer kids to get ideas and have the power to imagine, they teach kids life lessons, and authors have the right to publish their work and share their ideas. These reasons apply to why Harry Potter should not have been banned.

Harry Potter gives kids ideas, the freedom to imagine, to take a trip to a magical world. Ideas are what run the world and make it more advanced. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone can teach children everywhere life lessons. One of the lessons it teaches is that there will always be a mean person in life and that life will never truly be perfect. That does sound a little harsh, but that is real life. In Harry Potter he has to deal with his cousin Dudley Dursley, and then with Draco Malfoy and Snape. Another lesson is that no one is perfect. Ron grew up in a wizard family but did not know a lot of wizardry, where Hermione grew up with a Muggle family but knew a great amount of wizardry. This shows that there are always have areas to grow in and become better. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone can also teach the readers to have hope and that life does get better.
