Archetypes In Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone

When we see a small child playing with his fantasy friend alone in a room, we see that how he has created a world around himself in which he is one of the protagonist or the “Hero” who saves everyone in the end. His journey to achieve is always full of adventures, tales of those adventures will be told for many generations. Sometimes we as adult also create some a fantasy world in which we might not be the hero but it will be my counterpart who will lead the story. J.K Rowling always says that she wished she could have played the role of famous adolescent wizard Harry Potter, her fantasy character which became a sensation. The movie Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s stone has lot of shadow elements and archetypes, exciting plot, compelling characters, …show more content…
Dumbledore is considered as the most powerful wizard of his time, he always show aura of serenity and composure, and he rarely display intense emotion calm like a sea. It was said despite of this entire element Lord Voldemort was afraid of Dumbledore. This characterization in the movie is perfect he has a long beard, kind, wise, care taker and believer in power of human spirit. He always keeps reminding Harry the greatest power in the world is love and friendship which he mention many times because that is the only thing Lord Voldemort does not have that is his weakness. Dumbledore thinking that everyone should get second chance is remarkable. For example his relationship with Severus Snape whom everyone believe that he has links with Lord Voldemort and he also told him about Harry parent, even knowing these rumors he still and always have faith in him. Dumbledore knows the secret of Snape also that he use to like Lilly Potter mother of Harry and somewhat he is the reason also he gave hi, second chance to prove himself. His character can also be supported with the fact that he never fear death and always said that money and power is not the key element in life, they are the elements that can separate us from Humanity (a typical Wise man and a Care giver archetype). There was this scene in the movie where Harry is in front of the mirror that shows the deepest and despite desire of our heart and Dumbledore tells Harry that this is only an illusion this mirror just reflects what we want it cannot give us that thing in life, so it is wise not to waste your precious life for things that cannot come back. This scene according to me show the true mature nature of Dumbledore that who much he love Harry and he care about his happiness rather than telling him the dark truth. These elements

In the story Shrek there are many different spins of traditional archetypes and the types of characters, but even though this story has different spins on archetypes it still is not gender equal. The archetypes are different because of the looks of the Fair Maiden, Hero and the Villain. Even though from a feminist lense it seems more equal than most fairytale stories it still fails to pass the Bechdel Test. In the story, Shrek is a nasty ogre whom everyone dislikes and sees as a villain, but as the story goes on the viewer begins to see him as the hero.…

In Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, the author J.K. Rowling presents many different themes throughout the fantasy story. For example, it seems that Rowling has tied some religious aspects into the story, whether it be explicit references or simply religious symbolism. She also delves into deeper ideas, such as good vs. evil, as well as death and immortality, which you might not exactly expect from a children’s book. Beginning with the explicit references to religion, two major references would be the mention of the holidays Christmas and Easter, which are both usually associated with the Christian religion. However, in this story they don’t seem to be celebrating these holidays religiously.…
