It was now the end of Harry Hames Moffer’s freshman year at Warthogpox High School. It had been an exciting year, if excitement meant that he had to leave his relatives behind and move to a town that didn't believe in childhood unless children were reading a book based on the life of a fictitious boy wizard. Harry also had to attend one of the worst high schools in the city of Wyvernwing, Pencilvarnia at that. In 1997, J. K. Rowling’s first of seven books in the Harry Potter series was released. The book quickly became a best-selling phenomenon and so did it’s successors as most young adult readers found themselves hooked and simply couldn’t get enough of Harry Potter. Although the series became highly popular, it also brought wide-spread controversy with some parents and teachers who were under the impression that the book promoted the occult, witchcraft, and evil. This perception led to attempts to ban the book series from many schools and libraries. Contrarily, the Harry Potter series should not be banned because it provides lessons on moral values, promotes a healthy mind, it facilitates creativity.…

Since the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, was published in 1997, J.K. Rowling’s ‘Potterheads’ have done close-readings of the series. From determining detailed Hogwarts house characteristics to theories claiming Ron Weasley is actually Headmaster Dumbledore, the Potter fans have generated seemingly endless ideas and continue to find hidden meanings and symbols in the books. One particular trend in the series is the copious amount of biblical parallels. This is not just a reader-fabricated concept-it has been confirmed by Rowling that the books have strong Christian undertones, being a member of the Church of Scotland herself. In an interview Rowling said “There is a lot of Christian imagery in the books.…

Barring some startling event of miraculous time travel, I will never meet one of the most crucially influential figures of my early life. He spent his life in Great Britain while I hail from the state of Maine and, moreover, he died in 1963. That C.S. Lewis and I will remain strangers for all of infinity doesn’t really matter, because of how I read what he wrote. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia taught me countless lessons in morality, friendship, family, magic, faith in the ultimate goodness of the universe, and most of all the power of the written word. This has had a tremendous impact on who I’ve become as a person.…

The first novel that opened the door into the world of fantasy and true imagination through literature for me was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis. The pages transported me to another world, as though I was stepping through Narnia alongside the characters. The storyline was magical and entertaining for a young girl, creating a place for my mind to wander and explore. Narnia and the characters became a sense of comfort and curiosity through each chapter, as I was beginning to truly see the beauty in imagination.…

Hogwarts was Harry Potter’s Delusion: There is a theory that Harry Potter’s wonderful idealistic adventures in Hogwarts were a delusion he created for himself in reaction to the Verbal and Physical abuse. For starters, Harry's magic fantasies begin when, in real life, he's about to begin school at Stonewall High, being separated from his abusive cousin for the first time. It's a new school, a new environment, and therefore the perfect time to begin his delusions. First creation: Hagrid. Hagrid is so obviously a projection of Harry's impression of his Uncle Vernon, the only father figure in his life.…
