Harriet Tubman had many extravagant world changing experiences for her fight to be a free native American woman. Harriet Tubman affected most of American culture today, because of her efforts in the civil right movement. Her bravery and will to be free lead her to many great events like the Underground Railroad and being a spy during the Civil War.

At age twelve, life hit her hard as she became old enough to work in the fields. She preferred working in the fields doing the hard, physical work over working for a lady. There was one day that Harriet was sent to the grocery store, and at the grocery store she saw a fugitive slave. The slave was trying to hide his face because his overseer was about to confront him. The fugitive slave was trying to escape the store. Harriet was trying to help the runaway slave, so she stood in the doorway of the store. Before she knew it she was in the line of fire of the white master with a heavy weight and the runaway slave. The master threw the weight aiming for the slave and struck Harriet on the head. It was used to free African American people from slavery. They blacks would come from the border of the slave states. The border between Kentucky and Ohio was the most common place for a slave to travel because the slaves only had to pass through one other state. That still was not easy. There were slave catchers that made a living off of slaves trying to be free and them getting caught.This is where Harriet Tubman actions come into play. The fugitive slave act was placed in 1793 where slaves were treated as property in the south and as free people in the north. The south considered African Americans property. They believe if a slave had escaped from slavery they are to be returned. In the constitution, it states that slaves who escaped to free states had to be surrendered to their owners upon demand.
