Harriet Tubman was born on a plantation in Maryland in about 1821.She was born to Harriet and Ben Ross,who were slaves. Harriet’s name was originally Araminta Ross, but she changed it to Harriet. As a child, Harriet escaped from her master, and ran to hide in a pigpen.Harriet stayed in the pigpen for 5 whole days.On the 5th day, she returned to her master, expecting a beating, but instead the owner of the house did the beating, and it broke her ribs.That was not the worst hit she was to receive.
