Donny is nine years old and is in the fourth grade. Harriet Tubman Charter School is a public, non-profit independent school. There are twenty-five students in the class. Donny has a mother and father who are not together. He splits up his time with them during the week. Donny has an older brother that attends Harriet Tubman Charter School, he is in the sixth grade. Gargiulo stated (2012), “family interactions comprise the relationships and interactions among and between the various family subsystems. How members of a particular family interact depends in part on their degree of cohesion and adaptability.” (p.118). Donny’s mother and father do not have a solid relationship especially when it comes to communication and discipline. His mother is the …show more content…
Donny has a hard time transitioning from his father’s rules to school rules. He has told me he is allowed to do whatever he wants when he is at his father’s. Donny has difficulty transitioning from one activity to the next.
What is the educational setting of the student? The classroom setting is made up of twenty five students with a head teacher and teacher assistant. There are two students who IEP’s and two ELL students in the class. Harriet Tubman Charter School is a non-profit independent school that is located in a low income community. The school is considered a Tier Eight; high need school. This, alongside the charter schools high expectations makes for a challenging implementation of rigorous curriculum. The school also provides an ELL teacher to help with students who come from many different backgrounds that make up our school. A typical schedule in Donny’s classroom is; 8:10-9:30 is Math; 9:30-10:12 is a special (P.E., art, music, foreign language,), 10:12-11:30 is ELA, 11:30-12:16 is ELA intervention, 12:16-12:57 lunch, 1:00-1:42 is Math intervention, 1:42-2:24 is special, 2:24-3:15 is Science
