Slavery landed a major punch to America’s image ever since it was brought over in 1619 (History.com). Frederick Douglass said that, “ . . . slavery is alike the sin and the shame of the American people. . .” (Douglass 2). Due to this, Harriet Tubman is considered a revolutionary character who has made an enormous impact on the freedom of slaves in America, and through her life, people can see how slavery in America was a malicious system. Through conquering her past as a slave, she was able to better her future.

In a letter written by Frederick Douglas to Harriet Tubman, he wrote that, “. . .the most that you have done has been witnessed by a few trembling, scarred, and foot-sore bondmen and women . . . ‘God bless you’ has been your only reward.”(Douglass). Even tough she had more of a private persona while conducting in the Underground Railroad, she is now easily one of the most revolutionary characters when it came to the effectiveness of slave freeing. Within the 10 years that Tubman was a conductor, she visited the South 19 times and escorted over 300 slaves to freedom (Harriet 5). “On my Underground Railroad I [never] run my train off [the] track [and] I never [lost] a passenger.”
