Throughout my schooling I always had a love for one subject in particular, History. It consistently captured my interest and I could never understand my friends or classmates distaste when it came to its lessons. There was always a deep fascination within me surrounding this idea of learning (essentially) the story of how the modern age came into existence. And my love for the subject has gone unchanged, however as time moved forward I began to notice a glaring problem. The lack of female representation in my history classes. Throughout my k-12 schooling I only learned about two women in depth: Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. While their contributions to history are extremely significant their stories are not a strong reflection of my own experiences.
