Harriet Tubman was a hero because she saved over a thousand slaves, she persevered through cold and pain, and she cared about the freedom of others’ more than she cared about staying in Canada herself. Harriet Tubman sacrificed herself and had to deal with slaves who were tired and wanted to give up. But she never let them. She pushed them on through the aches and got them from station to station safely. She risked her life for the sake of others, and that makes for a true hero. In the passage, it read, “She made two trips a year into slave territory. One in the fall and another in the spring…pattern which remained unchanged for the next six years.” This is evidence that Harriet was truly a selfless woman.
