The nineteenth century in American history was a time of progress and westward expansion for the United States. Among the expansion were anti-slavery and abolition movements. A person who played a significant role in these movements was Harriet Tubman.
Harriet Tubman was born as Arminita Ross around 1820, in Dorchester, Maryland. Harriet was one of eleven children of Benjamin Ross and Harriet Green. Her parents were Ashanti, West African people and slaves on the plantation of Edward Brodas.
