Harriet Beecher Stowe is a famous abolitionist and author whose novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin had an impact on the end of slavery in the United States. She is credited with saying, "It is a matter of taking the side of the weak against the strong, something the best people have always done." By this quote I believe that she is saying that it is the duty of good people to stand up for people who cannot speak up for themselves. It does take tremendous courage to speak out because the act of speaking out makes you a target. Throughout history many people have suffered and even died for speaking out against evil. We have studied about heros in school that have stood up for what they believed in.
