Harold Shipman Research Paper

Doctors are people who you generally trust with your life. Dr. Harold Shipman may change your mind about this thought. One of the most prolific serial killers in history, having killed over 200 people in three decades, all of them his patients. Giving them fatal injections of morphine, more specific than morphine, he injected them with medical heroin (Bunyan). What made him want to kill his patients? Was he trying to kill them, or take away their pain? January 14, 1946 seemed like a normal day for the Shipman Family, giving birth to a baby boy (Harold Shipman: The killer doctor). What they didn’t know was that their baby that was just born would turn out to be one of the most prolific serial killers in history. Born into a working class family as the middle child, everything seemed normal, his family wasn’t poor and he wasn’t abused like most serial killers are. His patients were all to happy to accept him into their homes, seeing as he was their doctor and a caring one at that. He would then proceed to give them a checkup and determined that they must be in pain, even in they hadn’t felt the pain. He would give them the morphine to ease their pain, just like the effect morphine had on his mother. He didn’t know how much to give them though; he would inject them with enough to be fatal. He would then leave and return a few hours later to make sure the drug had the desired effect on his patients, only to discover they were already dead.
