Did you know in 53% of households of 7th- to 12th-graders, there are no rules about TV watching(Boyse)? What about watching television as a child? You probably have very fond memories of your favorite t.v. shows. But did those same television shows actually hurt you more than you think? As with a lot of media television can be very persuasive without even meaning to. Kyla Boyse sums up the violence on television by saying “Many shows glamorize violence. TV often promotes violent acts as a fun and effective way to get what you want, without consequences.” Many people know that bullying is a huge problem in schools. There are many factor that contribute to a person becoming a violent and television can be cited as one of them. Boyse states “Spending time watching TV can take time away from healthy activities like active play outside with friends, eating dinner together as a family, or reading. TV time also takes away from participating in sports, music, art or other activities that require practice to become skillful.” children addicted to television will lose out on things like some extra curricular activities. sitting for hours is not good for children, they need to be outside especially in their younger years. they will form bad habits that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Habits like not getting enough exercise, not eating right, and sitting too close to the television. all of these things can and will affect the child in the long run. Children also miss out on playing sports that they might enjoy, even if they do not like the sport they miss out on playing with their friends. Without being around people children will lose out on learning important social skills. Kids these days are already antisocial due to technology and would rather talk to people over the phone instead of in person. television only exacerbates the problem, because they would rather watch their favorite t.v. show then go out and socialize with their friends. a person that spends too much time watching television will miss out on a lot in life just because they want to see the season
