What Is Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is a used to help people who are addicted to something use well. Social workers, psychiatrists, etc “do not condemn or condones the behavior” (citation), but tries to reduce the behavior. This technique helps individuals who are addicted or struggles with substance abuse with tools and resources to help keep them safe. For example, if a client comes in addicted to drugs then clean needles are available. Another example is when a client is wanted to drink and drive. Legally there is a limit to how much you drink. Harm reduction tries to encourage safe drinking and encourages a limit. The clients have a choice what they want to do. Harm reduction is trying to minimize the substance abuse or whatever type of abuse out there. By doing that, there is harm reduction strategies and behavioral models that seek to help reduce substance abuse.
