The setting of this To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is Maycomb county, Alabama. There are many hardships here, considering it takes place in the mid-nineteen hundreds. Those hardships include : unemployment, tightness of money, heated race relations - Jim Crow laws, and many others. The people who live in Maycomb county probably didn’t have the easiest life. Although, they just had to deal with the hardships, and because of that, they showed courage.
Six-year old Scout Finch conveys the most courage. She isn’t afraid to do what it takes to stand up for her family and keep them safe. On pages 110-112, Scout gets into an argument with Francis. Francis is ranting really badly about Atticus and teasing Scout about being a black person lover. This infuriates her and she punches him in the mouth. She doesn’t care if she gets in trouble or if she gets “licked”. She is going to stand up for herself no matter what. She shows courage by doing so.
