Hardin County Fair Reflection

Decent Essays
I have been involved in the Hardin County Fair since the age of 2 when I started entering projects through Goo Crew. Since then I have entered a wide variety of projects in 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts and open class. I have entered poster boards, jewelry, scrapbooks, wood works, and cookies. This variety of projects has allowed me to learn how to display them in a booth so they can be easily seen and look presentable from most angles. I have also spent a good deal of time watching my friends work with their animals. This has lead me to be able to work with most animals as I have chased chickens, bathed rabbits, walked goats, and penned pigs. My background in FFA has also helped me tremendously with this as well. I believe these skills will allow

One thing that really shocked me about this project was to see how much history is right around the corner from where I lived. In my early childhood, I used to pass the Fairfax Courthouse all the time on my way to school. I never really gave much thought to the meaning behind the courthouse, though, six-year old me thought the shiny cannons were pretty cool. Visiting the courthouse ten years later was the first chance I got to grasp the significance of the site. The Historic Fairfax County Courthouse was first built in 1800, it was to be a place where a court system could discuss local tax rates, road construction, and administrating the local government.…

The scenario is about requesting Roger M. Agro, the manager of Countryfield Fair, to allocate time for interview to collect information about the 150th annual Countryfield Fair. College for America (2016) states that “fair is a popular local tradition” which can be reported and run in the Local Interest Section. The ethical issue is that the manager’s reply to the email seems to show a very high tenderness upon the request. In fact, he suggests to offer free tickets to whoever I show up with in the fair which seems to be a payment for a journalist to feature the tradition. This might provoke “agenda setting” issue since if I accept this offer, I will also be forced to write unreal things.…

The State Fair of Texas, full of fried foods, car shows, live entertainment, and plenty of rides and games, was back in town in Dallas, Texas. Spanning from September 25th to October 18th, this was the fair’s 129th year to be alive and thriving. Starting in the 19th century, “American fairs and exhibitions reflected the nation’s agricultural-based economy.” The fair was initially a way to offer education, resources, and entertainment, and this is the way I used to see it. I loved going to the fair to enjoy all that it had to offer while enjoying time with my family.…

As I reflect on the extracurricular activities that I was a part of during my high school years, one program stands out above the rest—Arkansas Boys State. Going into the program, I was unsure of how the program would benefit me as a senior in high school. I did not have any interest in politics, nor did I want to learn about it. I was the only student from my school who attended Boys State. I was surrounded by seniors of the same level of intellect, and I was very intimidated.…

As a resident of Georgia, I have always considered Emory in the horizon of my “backyard”. I have been a previous patient of Emory for parathyroid surgery, and my mother is currently a patient there as well for her thyroid cancer condition. Visiting Emory, I was able to see and experience firsthand how well Emory treats its patients, faculty, and its students. I found the culture of Emory warm and inviting. Emory’s MD/PhD program also thoroughly supports its students in all capacities of learning, and I can foresee myself excelling in its program in such an environment that encourages student growth.…

Plan I have had past experiences which led me to participate in a hog load out and soybean harvest. I really became interested in helping with a hog load out after learning that the ag450 farm had hogs. I say this because I have grown up around cattle only and have only handled pigs once where we were required to practice moving them at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. I also wanted to help with harvest because I have never have gotten a lot of experience with helping at harvest since my family farm is a small acreage.…
