Through the 10 years of me playing football I’ve had and met multiple coaches that I’ve liked of disliked, but at the end of the day you have to deal with them and play the sport you love. The first coach I ever had as soon as I started playing football was David Price and he was the best coach anyone could ask for. He was a tough coach meaning you had to work for your position but at the end of the day you could sit down and talk to him. Every year we played we had a winning season and never backed down from anyone. The practices would be awesome we would do drills to work our technique like: run drills, tackling drills, and in the end play a tackling game or play tug of war.…

To most, Friday night lights sounded like a bunch of boys playing with a football under the lights. However, to me, it meant so much more than just a game. Week after week, I showed up to practice every single day to work my butt off, meanwhile, sacrificing homework time and hanging out with friends just so I could play with my brothers once a week. The lights may have blinded in big moments, but they taught even greater life lessons. The homecoming game was a huge wake up call for me.…

Watching American football on Sundays with my father was what I looked forward to the most at the end of the weekend. The helmets cracking, student section getting wild, and being under the lights on Friday night is just a taste of what high school football is. As I look back at my very first varsity football game and having only 2 years of experience, I have no regrets. Although we did have one of our most dreadful seasons at 1-7, we looked forward. I will always treasure the film and game clips I have saved on my computer’s hard drive.…

“Football stood at the very core of what the town was about, not on the outskirts, not on the periphery. It had nothing to do with entertainment and everything to do with how people felt about themselves.” (333) For me, this quote sums up what life in Odessa really is. The worth of the people in Odessa are put completely and entirely on the high school football team. On Friday Night’s between August and December, the Permian High School Panthers fight for everything they have, both on and off the field. African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian males…

Bissinger and Dungy both examine how football is seen differently by people and how football leads to bigger impacts made in society throughout Friday Night Lights and Quiet Strength. In both respected books the coaches of the teams, coach Tony Dungy and coach Gaines, have two different approaches when it comes to football. Tony thinks of football as a secondary job to serving out the Lord's mission, while coach Gaines worries only about football and if his team is winning games. The environment they were adept to plays a role in this theme as Tony was raised in a home with great faith and theta stayed with him all…

The whole season only one team went undefeated, the Colts. I played on the colts with a lot of my friends. My coach told us that the practice will be harder than games, and they were by a lot. We had to run up steep hills, run around a hockey rink twice, then run ladders the size of a football field, then last of all, we had to run full length football fields down and back five times with full pads and helmets on. (It got really hot and sweaty fast and I had a visor on so that fogged up fast.)…
