“CREAK”, the bus door opened and I waited as I watched all of the children struggling to get out. There is only one way I feel… I don’t want them to go. Every day I see them get off the “special needs” bus and get laughed at and see the fingers pointed straight at them, it’s ridiculous. You would have thought that tenth graders would have learned by now that bullying and harassment is childish, but apparently not.
It’s amazing how much potential the kids on my bus have, especially Johnny. John is the type of guy who is independent and strong inside and out. I love him, he is a great kid. Instead of the regular laugh and point, the leader of the group, Ethan, walked up to Johnny and started making fun of his twisted legs. “That’s just downright cruel”, I whispered to myself. As I was about to look away, I saw John throw a punch straight in his face! I could have sworn I saw birds above Ethans head as he spun around and landed on his stomach. I know I shouldn’t have, but I was feeling so proud of Johnny, I almost cheered him on. As Ethan started running towards Johnny to return the punch, John punched him again, but this time it was right in the stomach! Ow, that must have hurt. No one ever made fun of these kids again after Johnny delivered that punch. I’m sure he scared all those bullies off. I do not agree with fighting, but I was so proud that Johnny stood up for himself like that. I won’t be able to see his shining face anymore, but I’ll never forget that kid and what he did that day. If he didn’t stand up for himself and all those kids that day, things probably would have stayed the way they were. As I drive this bus to and from school everyday, I will always remember the bravery that was shown, and that no one is ever too weak to stand up for themselves, no matter who that person
