The Happy Mini @ Girls Art Project team, has been participating in the @Home league of the RoboCup Japan Open since 2014, and participated in the RoboCup 2015, 2016, and 2017[1] world competition. The team got the 9th, 8th, and 9th places in the competition.
The goal of Happy Mini @ Girls Art Project is to create a home robot which will make family and society happy. We believe our resource and technology are not meant to build war or battle robots. Through robotics, we aim to promote a socie-tal change in which we take full advantage of engineering and science to help sustain household happiness allowing family members to share the enjoyment of life in a beloved community. As a home robot, Happy mini has unique features: its cute design (e.g., super proportionally large and shiny eyes) which creates a warm sense of friendliness and reduced weight which makes it easy for a typical adult to carry around. One of its leading functions is to read a picture book to children. While typical storytelling requires someone to be a reader, Happy mini enables both parents and children to be listeners so that they can share the same perspective. Another popular function is a multilingual learning: Happy mini helps children learn a new foreign language by interacting with them in that lan-guage. Having participated in the RoboCup World Cup in the home robot league three times, we have come to realize that the robotics designs tend to be skewed; most of the robots at the conference were heavy and large, and most notably masculine.
