There are no harsh or weird rules about how a manager should address the behavior or performance issues in the laboratory. However; as the manager of Happy Land Lab, I must always be fair and make sure that the employee is notified about her issues and is given a chance to change the situation before I decide the termination is the only solution. It seems that Donna is late, rude and makes mistakes and errors in her performance so she is demonstrating issues in all three categories of attendance, conduct and performance at work. It is obvious that she requires a thoughtful action plan detailing what steps she must take to meet the laboratory’s attendance and behavioural standards and a performance improvement plan that trains her to improve her productivity at work.

If Donna is not meeting my expectations, I must have a conversation with her and keep a record of this conversation. I cannot sit and expect her to read my mind and find out what are her problems and how I want her to fix them. I must outline and set a clear job expectation regarding her attendance, conduct and performance in the Lab. Factually documenting the issues and specifically mentioning my concerns with details is necessary because it will support my final decision and prevents any surprise if a forceful action is required in the future. I will be also listening to her explanation, feedback and point of view. Discussing with her is also essential because it can help me to find out the cause of her issues and clarifies the severity and pattern of her problems and enables me to develop an accurate relevant action
