Happiness is typically conceptualized as having three factors: positive feelings, few negative feelings, and overall satisfaction with life. Each of these components intertwine to the pursuit of happiness. In an ideal world individuals assume that everyone has a right to be happy, or so we think. According to a study published by the American Psychological Association, the pressure to be happy actually makes people unhappy. Repeating phrases claiming that they are happy or even more happier than ever while actually refusing to deal with the mess can be seen as a version of being in denial. Many could imply that happiness is a key component that leads to positive well-being. Therefore it is reasonable for someone to expect that by valuing happiness an individual will have positive beneficial outcomes. However in a different perspective this may not always be the case. Instead, by valuing what one believes is happiness one could actually be hurting their own well being, the more people value and reach towards happiness. In fact the more people pursue happiness the less they seem able to obtain it. that the more people strive for happiness, the more likely they will be to set a high standard for happiness—then be disappointed when that standard is not met.
