Jane Austen’s quote about having a large income as a recipe for happiness is something I think a ton of people in today’s society, including myself, believe in and agree with. Though it may seem shallow on the surface, its way more than having just the money. It’s about surviving in today’s expensive world, and being able to take care of those you care about, it’s about making sure you’re able to get an education, to get a job, and live the American Dream.

The American Dream. The American Dream is “the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative.” A large amount of people, both inside and outside the US, have this dream. But, the ones that they hope will help them with this dream, schools/work/etc., are commonly the ones that are stopping this from happening. Whether it’s an expensive tuition, unnecessary fees for not attending optional events, funding for useless things, smaller income because you don’t know someone in the company or because of your gender/sexuality/ethnicity, or not getting married to the one you love because of expenses. The only reason "A large income is the best recipe for happiness..." is because those who can really achieve the American Dream are those with large incomes. And that is what a ton of people today, including myself, believe in and agree with. We have been warped in such a way where, if you don’t make enough money, you might as well not have a chance of achieving this. And what’s more surprising is those we would think help with this dream, are doing the exact opposite. We, as a whole, need to take a step back and see what our society has really come
