When the researchers took out this variable the results still were constant in state and individual level. The research shows that at an individual level people were not religious, but at a state level there was a substantial percentage of those that were religious.
When it came to measure the amount of religiosity in individuals in The United States there was a daily poll that people answered if religion was a part of their daily life, a simple yes or no item. The point of this research is to give an explanation as to how religion and happiness correlate. This study also attempts to explain why happiness and religion are two components that seem to make a person more religious or less religious. The hypothesis for this study would be if religion across cultures i.e. The United States and The World varies due to the characteristics of society, this study also examined the benefits of religion, and if religion is related more to happiness, and if happiness is the reason people stay religious. In this study more than two variables were used to assess a relationship between happiness and religion. There was no manipulation of variables, because the researchers were only going by the information that was already apart of the participants.
