Around the age of six, most kids are enrolled in some type of education program. This means that most of our life will be dictated by what we are taught from a young age, so education, in my opinion, is a very important piece to the American dream. In her essay “What Has Happened to the American Dream”, First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt compares our education system to those of other powerful countries around the world. She talks about using methods of teaching our youth about other countries and cultures, just like the Russians do with their youth. She argues that taking this approach to education will allow us to help other countries build their nations as we build ours. Though I think we should be learning about and helping out other countries, I don’t agree with her idea of “forcing” the American youth to take part in this. I believe when you force someone to do something, you are taking away their freedom. When I was in 6th grade, my family decided homeschooling was a good option for my education. Though I was still required to fulfill my high school transcript, I got to experience the freedom to decide when, how, and what I learned in school. I believe all schools should give students more freedom to choose what they want to learn and how they are
