How will this paper directly relate to the fairytale? By connecting the witch with the serial killers in the world today, it will show the kind of monsters they are. But, is it entirely their fault? Yes, they committed the crime and deserve to be punished. But, also in this paper it’ll show that serial killer are simply misunderstood adults with a very serious problem caused by APSD (Anti-Personality Social Disorder) or more commonly know as APD (Anti-Personality Disorder). What made them do this was their parents or any sort of past traumatic event in their life. Just like the parents of Hansel and Gretel, average, everyday parents have a tendency to either abandon or abuse their children, without realizing the long term effects it will have on them. In the story of Hansel and Gretel, it tells the tale of two young children born to a poor woodcutter. Their stepmother and father couldn’t make enough money to support the four of them. The stepmother manipulated the father into abandoning the children so that only they would survive. The father and stepmother led the children to the deepest and darkest parts of the woods, abandoned them, and left them all alone to fend for themselves. The first time Hansel and Gretel are left alone, they make their way back to their parents “loving” arms but again are led back into the woods by their …show more content…
Lona goes into great detail about how and why an innocent human being can become such an evil individual. She says, “Their family, is, in turn, the most often a revealing either structural deficiencies, i.e. the absence of a parent due to death, abandonment, divorce or conviction, or functional deficiencies when the family is structurally intact but lacks skill, interest, or concern to properly educate the child as a result of the low socio-economic and cultural levels, of alcoholism, of their criminal concerns”. He examines famous serials killers and professional theories, as well as studies concerning them and the general characteristic traits they possess. He states that serial killers are “frequently the products of broken or severely brutal homes, where they have themselves been subjected to gross cruelty, sexual abuse, and in some cases prolonged and systematic torture, in deprived childhood: negative parenting as the jargon has it. Vulgatim: the brutal father is the father to the brutal father.” (Egan 327). Serial killers bare painful memories from their childhood, of abuse, humiliation, frustration, or being bullied, they use fantasies to escape, comfort themselves, and even develop an alternate identity that feels more powerful or provides greater ego status.…

The witch craze, during which hundreds of thousands of people were executed without trial, occurred during the renaissance and reformation in the late 1400s until the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment in the 1700s. The “witches” were mostly female, and given no trial. During this time period, although people were beginning to get educated, the majority of people believed that women could be evil and crazy, but men couldn’t and were therefore better than women and could do what they desired, which included placing the blame of the world’s evils on women. This apparent evil nature of people, especially women, led to the death of over 100,000 victims accused of being witches, and their age and the spread of disease were the blamed causes of the supposed spread of witchcraft. Two Dominican monks, Kramer and Sprenger, claimed that women were naturally corrupted and evil, and that they were sexual beings, which supposedly led to the…

Psychopathy is a personality disorder manifested in people who use a mixture of charm, manipulation, intimidation, and occasionally violence to control others, in order to satisfy their own selfish needs (“Serial Murder”). This is exactly what killer Edmund Kemper used against his victims before committing numerous, heinous acts upon them and their corpora. Not only has Kemper been infamously used as an inspiration for many films and television shows, he also serves as a constant reminder to young women across the country to stay away from strangers. Like many literary characters we’ve read about such as Macbeth, The Co-Ed Killer has brought our nightmares to life starting when he was just a young child.…

The variation of strange and disturbed characters has been a constant throughout all works of gothic fiction. In The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe, the narrator murders an old man for which he has an almost familial love. It is clear that the novel’s narrator has a questionable mental state due to his weak grasp upon reality. This is seen in the way he attributes special powers to the old man’s eye and in his incomprehension towards neighbours hearing the final heartbeats of his victim. First of all, the narrator associates fictional powers with the old man’s pale blue eye.…

The fear of the unknown generates the hatred and violent nature of humans. The desperation for a plausible explanation of a specific occurrence potentially causes a misinterpretation. Thus, creating monsters like vampires, werewolves, and witches, creates a scapegoat for a society that blindly accepts other’s belief as their own. Although witches are humans, they are considered to be creatures of the night for they worship the devil. The societal portrayal of witches specifically introduces only female figures as a satanic worshipper who lure and corrupt men.…

This clearly shows that the typical family, with both parents present, doesn’t normally produce children who find themselves in criminal activities. With the father gone, young adults seek the love and attention, he would normally provide, in any other way they can. This usually ends up with children joining gangs at a young age, where they grow close to the other gang members and get praise and love for their criminal acts. Again author David Blankenhorn discusses this topic in his book,…

According to dictionary.com, a hero is “a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character”. In Grendel by John Gardner, the author portrays Grendel in such a light that he is not the hero of the story, even though he is the protagonist. Grendel gave a specific list on what qualities a hero must have, and he has the exact opposite of those qualities. He says that a hero should be great with women, stand tall, be self-aware, and have a great vocabulary. The exact opposite of a hero is a villain, and if his qualities are the exact opposite of being a hero, then he is, therefore, the villain.…

Essay “If you want your children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders,” - Abigail Van Buren Parents are the reason for the illegal actions of their child. This is because some parents do not take the time to talk to their child, letting them know what is right and what is wrong, these children will later grow up into dangerous and immoral criminals. There are people who neglect their children and do not pay attention to them, and so the child will not know or learn what is right and wrong. This is why parents should be legally responsible for their children's actions because they are their child’s biggest influence, they should teach them, and penalizing will make both parents and children more responsible. When children are growing up they imitate or act like their parents, so when that parent is irresponsible, reckless, and cruel the child will most likely become that.…
