Harland Sanders Harland Sanders was by far the most unique entrepreneur we have seen so far, but I would argue he is nowhere near the top of the Pantheon. There was nothing extraordinary about Sanders that I did not see in any other entrepreneurs we have looked at, and there were many characteristics the other entrepreneurs possessed that Sanders did not. He was an entrepreneur, he was not a great entrepreneur. Growing up, he encountered adversity quite often, so he knew how to deal with difficult situations. By the time he was 40, he had work dozens of jobs and never really found something that worked. Disappointed by his life, he wanted to change. The result of his desire to change eventually became Kentucky Fried Chicken. We have talked about how entrepreneurs must have a vision and see an area of need and pursue it. However, I do not think Sanders had any intention of changing the lives of others when he started his business, it was merely something for him to do to get him “back on track”. It was a creative and original idea, I am not sure that it deserves a gold entrepreneurial star. …show more content…
When he began to lose customers because of the bypass around his restaurant, he sold his business. In my opinion, this was a very safe decision. The more modern entrepreneurs we have studied had more risk-taking characteristics; their willingness to take risks often set them apart as great entrepreneurs of our time. Although time does have an effect, I do not think Sanders would have been successful if he was alive during our generation today.
