Have you ever read a book that you can relate to? For example when you're reading at home or at school and get hooked on it so quickly because of how much you can relate to it. Well there are many ways literature and life are connected. Some examples are characterization, conflict, and narration because the way we handle our conflicts is how we characterized and how people would narrate our lives just how an author would with a character in a book. Gillham indirectly characterizes Hank in many ways. For example, Gillham indirectly characterizes Hank by saying things about him 3rd person. He explains how Hank was never close to his family and how Hank always thought that he was the least favorite of his father. He also explained to us how Hank …show more content…
For example, in the Interlopers we can see how Saki gives us inside knowledge by showing us how two men feel about each other. “ Each had hate in their heart and murder uppermost in his mind.” This shows us how the two men thought. In the interlopers: A Short Film, all we can grasp is that they don't likes each others, because it only shows us what they say to each other. So that's why in the story it was third person omniscient and in the film it was third person objective. You can see how we narrate ourselves in real life is the thing as how the narration was in The Interlopers: A Short Film. The way we tell a story or the we narrate another person’s life is the same way how The Interlopers was …show more content…

It made me realize how that if I wouldn't have changed my lifestyle I wouldn't have been the person I am today. Ever since, I have had a better and healthier life. I can relate to books, because there are characters that might have gone through the same problem or conflict. This is one of the many ways how life and literature can be related or connected. To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

The incorporation of Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth and Carl Jung’s Archetypes within Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits, Arundhati Roy’s The God of Small Things, and William Butler Yeats’ “The Second Coming” promotes the discussion of the frailty, strength, kindness, and cruelty of humanity and how literature portrays these ideas and themes. In literature, the protagonist often acts as the hero or heroine and embarks upon a journey in order to achieve their ultimate goal, the “Holy Grail,” which offers happiness and marks the accomplishment of the hero’s fulfillment. The hero’s archetypical journey as described by Joseph Campbell and supported by Carl Jung portrays the complexity of humanity as the hero experiences a profound and philosophical…

Two works of literature everyone should read is The Odyssey by Homer and Hamlet by William Shakespeare. Homer’s story about the journey Odysseus went on is relatable to our lives and the journey we have to live on our own. It also relates to the freedoms that we have away from home, but with the longing to be home. Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, is also relatable to us because he is rebelling because his mother is with someone other than his father and he also questions what happens after death. These are not the only ways we relate, but reading The Odyssey and Hamlet gives you a better understanding of how we relate.…
