Art has played a significant role in history and continues to positively affect today’s society. Art, in the form of paintings, has been used throughout history to tell stories and send messages. Today, people view art as an outlet, a way to express oneself, a way of sharing happiness with others, and a means of storytelling. Despite the many proven positive effects of art, some Christians today still view it as something that has no value and should not be used. However, art is very valuable to Christianity. It expresses the handiwork of God’s beautiful creation, encourages Christians to be more like God, and provides a way of remembering and teaching the importance of past events that took place in the Bible.

Those who claim Christianity are always compelled to be like Christ in every way possible. It is a core belief of Christianity that everything in the world is a result of the creative mind of God. This is supported by the story of the creation. In the beginning, God created the world and He also created man in His likeness. “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). So if humans were created in the image of God and are compelled to be like Him, being creative in the form of creating art would be a temperament of God, and should, therefore, be acceptable and valuable to the Christian. Michelangelo expresses his feelings on the importance of art to his spirituality in his poem “TITLE.” He expresses the connection between his spirituality and his creations through his painting. This is just an example of how being creative can evokes feelings that connect individuals to God and encourage them to be like
