The variety of skills include the following: running, throwing, dribbling, and jumping. Running is a necessity in the game because handball is a fast paced game and a players’ speed can be increased through practice. Handball also requires the skill of throwing a ball whether it is from one player to another, or at the goal. Velocity and strength of the throw can be improved through practice and repetition. Dribbling is needed in handball in order to move the ball further down the court, and it is considered a skill because it takes much practice in order to have complete control of the ball. Lastly, jumping is a key skill in the game. As stated previously, jumping is used when trying to throw off the goalie in order to score. Jumping approaches can be enhanced through practice and strength training. As a result, handball would be categorized as a gross motor skilled sport. Gross motor skills are skills that use large muscle groups. Motor Learning can be observed by the amount of effort that the player puts into the game mentally and physically (the goal is for less effort).
