There was a lot of dysfunction going on with my patient who had the infection of her stump. Her other problem of obesity complicated her situation and is extending her healing time. We have learned in previous nursing courses like medical surgical nursing that obesity and high fat content, makes the healing process from surgeries and infections take longer. This patient had a recent graft done which is to be used for her hemodialysis, and this will likely take longer to heal. I saw signs of this, and observed this when talking with her physician about her plan of care. We both examined her site and noted that it was reddish pink and irritated.
