As in any society, equality cannot be achieved because we have different types of classes, in the ancient Mesopotamian we had three classes. They were property owners, freed men, and slaves. And the punishments were different based on gender and class. For example if someone who was rich cut off the arm of a slave then the punishment would have been much lighter than those slaves who have hurt or insulted upper classes. For example, if someone was responsible for taking someone’s eye out, then by law he will be punished by taking his eye out. Another example is that if the accuser, accused someone without enough evidence to support his claim then the accuser will be punished.
