The Code of Hammurabi was written in the 18th century by king Hammurabi ruler of Babylon in Mesopotamia. He inscribed the first set of laws in history. “Hammurabi wanted to unify his empire and provide order and protections for the weak” (Document 2). His set of laws helped him govern more easily and protect the people. This code made lasting contributions to humankind because all the countries now have a set of rules that must be followed and like in Hammurabi's code if those laws are broken there will be consequences. Having laws is essential in order to keep a society organized. He also helped contribute to later civilizations by establishing an elaborate way of life. Plumbing and sewer system are important for health. Without the proper sewer systems diseases can spread and kill people. With plumbing people are able to do our necessities on private bathrooms at home.
In conclusion, the achievements of ancient Mesopotamia, China and the Indus River continue to make lasting contributions to humankind. The technologies from ancient times and today's are still the same, but we continue to make modifying the technologies to fit our needs.
