Hammurabi became king of a small city-state named Babylon nearly 4,000 years ago. He ruled over 1,000,000 people. He also created a code of laws that had 282 written laws. “We know little about Hammurabi’s personal life, but we do know that he ruled for 42 years. “If a man has opened his trench for irrigation and the waters flooded his neighbor's field, the man must restore the crop he has caused to be lost.” (Doc D). It makes complete sense why hammurabi would write this law (53,54) If a man has opened his trench and the waters have destroyed his crops, it would only make sense why he would replace all of the crops and fertile soil that the man has lost. “If a married lady is caught [in adultery] with another man, they shall bind them and cast them into the water.” (Doc C). This law ( law 129) is clearly just. It is just because it teaches a married wife not to cheat on another man. Or vise-versa. If Hammurabi was light or with very little punishment at all then many married couples would still keep repeating the same felony that they are already doing.
