Hammerhead: A Short Story

Improved Essays
Walking away from the restaurant I stood there in the parking lot looking at the map and at the road. It would take far too long for me to get there. Seeing that Lestallum is Northwest from here, plus she told me that most areas are on lockdown and would be hard to get through.
I also remember what the chef said she told me some areas are locked down, and that no one can get through them. She did say the best thing to do right now is to head to Hammerhead which is almost North from here, and that someone by the name of Cindy could help me.
Taking a deep breath, I had a long journey ahead of me. Which means I can’t take frequent breaks. If I do take anything, it can’t be no longer than 10 minutes. I followed the road, I knew it was going to be a

I figured I would stop and get something to drink to help cool myself off for a bit. Walking into the diner, I sat down at the counter and order some water, and I decided to ask the owner how far it was to Hammerhead. He told me about 1 mile up the road. I still have a long walk ahead of me. Thanking him, I paid for the glass. And turned around, when I looked out the windows I saw that it was raining. I couldn’t believe it. Just a moment ago it was sunny.
Sighing to myself, I figured a little bit of rain isn’t going to hurt me. And that it would be best if I kept moving, I don’t want to stall and the sun sets, then next thing I know, the daemons are running around. Shaking those thoughts from my head, I left the diner and started back on the road following it.
I was starting to wonder, who I am. I mean when I woke up all I could remember was my name Aylena and that was it. I couldn’t remember where I was from or why I was in Niflheim, but something was telling me that I was on the run from something or someone. I couldn’t remember at all, or at least that much. I just hope and pray that when I do get to Lestallum, that I’ll find someone who recognizes

It was the middle of November and I was sent to Samalut, Egypt to assist Sarah Parcak, Josh, and Noah, where they discovered a peculiar looking human bone buried 10 feet down in the sand. Sarah discovered this site, by using the satellite imaging analysis that helps find buried ruins. The sun was beating on our backs, as we worked long hours, barely getting anywhere close to reaching the item. Around noon, our crew had dug approximately halfway down, when suddenly a colossal sand storm was approaching us at an exceptionally fast rate.…

Reflective Writing Assessment – Scottish Weather I am sitting down in a warm, dry establishment, making an escape from the torrential downpour that was happening on the other side of the window. The place in which I have taken refuge sells coffee, hot chocolate and at this moment in my cold and dreary state the warmest, sweetest tea that my taste buds have had the pleasure of feeling. As my eyes gaze out of the raindrop covered glass, the pupils in my eyes are drawn towards a group of young people with cheerful faces, ignoring the sensation of their clothes getting wet, splashing through the collections of water whilst ecstatically chasing and attacking a sphere-like object. Their feet move them across the marshy, treacherous ground, swiftly one of the youngster's feet catches the ball and they stop, take aim and the toe of the kid's boot thrusts the ball into the net like a…

As I walk through, hands tucked away in my sweatshirt pocket, I am met with little assurance of progress, but still I am sure I am heading the right way. Parked cars, a neighbor rolling their trash bins from the street, appearing and disappearing amidst the illuminated mist emitting from nowhere. Fog’s conglomerative mass climbs onto land from from its congregation point within the Pacific Ocean and crawls across California's northern coast, where my perspective resides, to its eventual destination at the coastal redwoods. Within this habitat I have come to enjoy what comes in with every morning sea breeze: Contentment, security and solace. Self-apparent reassurances on a gloomy day.…
