(The Major Theme of Death in Act Five)
In act five there is quite a bit of talk about death and how it slowly narrows down to Hamlet’s death. There are steps that lead down to the tragedy of all the deaths, which is the queen’s death and the king’s death. Which was supposed to be Hamlet that dies at the very end but there is a major plot twister. To start out he is playing a game which does not end very well and then Hamlet shows up which he was supposed to be killed in England. Hamlet then goes to the graveyard and asks who they are digging the grave for and picks up a skull that rolls out with the dirt. In this first ripple it is Hamlet’s conscience that makes all the death begin and when he killed Polonius. Polonius was hiding behind the curtain in Hamlet’s mother room so he saw the curtains moving and he stuck the sword into the curtain killing Polonius. Hamlet thought it was king Claudius so he thought it was a good time to send him to hell. By Hamlet killing Polonius that means that Polonius’s son gets to kill Hamlet because of revenge. Hamlet ends up losing his mother and his father, while also killing his uncle or stepfather which ever you want to call him. This act has been mostly pertaining to death and getting closer to what is supposed to be the death of Hamlet. First Hamlet is sent off the England after killing Polonius, then Hamlet finds out that Ophelia has drowned in the river. Hamlet then has to fight Laertes and Hamlet finds out that he has cheated by putting poison on the blood and took off the protective shield. His mother then drinks poison that was meant for Hamlet that Hamlet then made Claudius drink the rest of the
