Point #2A: Hamlet is a complicated character to understand. He tends to hide the real him at certain times. He hides his reality for various reasons: such as getting people away from him, making the king believe that he is nice and respectful, and for mocking people.

However, in this letter, he is acting nice and respectful towards the king, asking for pardon. Hamlet is hiding himself behind an appearance in order to make the king believe that Hamlet is not out to kill him. But what Hamlet really plans on doing is fooling the king into meeting him alone and then killing him. When Hamlet acts mad around others, he is essentially fooling others and making them less suspicious of him. This way, he can get vengeance for his father easily without the interference of other people. Appearance represents that Hamlet is the type of person to act differently in order to achieve what he
