Hamlet Spying On Laertes

Polonius, Claudius and Hamlet are all spying on other characters for their own reasons. Polonius is spying on his son Laertes in France with Reynaldo because Polonius doesn’t trust his son so he wants to make sure that Laertes is doing what he is supposed to. Polonius's claims that his reason for sending Reynaldo to Paris is to take money and notes to Laertes. His real reason, however, appears to be that he wants to find out if Laertes is gaming, drinking, fencing, swearing, or going to brothels. Claudius is spying on Hamlet with his two college friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, to see if there is anything he can do about Hamlet’s madness to make it better. Hamlet is spying on Claudius to see in what way can he make Claudius figure out that he knows and make him feel guilty for killing his father. He does this with the play by renaming it “The Mousetrap” and adding the scene that very closely resembles how the murder happened. …show more content…
Previous to his plan, Polonius was seen as dull and long-winded. We can now see that he is self-absorbed and has a lot of distrust by thinking that his advice is the best advice and the only thing that his son should be doing. He believes that Laertes is a disobedient son, thus building the characteristic of chronic doubt. Contrastly, Claudius was before seen as an intelligent and capable ruler. He is now developed characteristics such as shrewd fulness and lust through his wish to figure out Hamlet. Hamlet however, has developed character traits of his own.
