After discovering the truth about his father's death, Hamlet began to plot his revenge against his uncle which led him to do many things that seem odd and abnormal to his natural self. To start, Hamlet intruded into Ophelia's private space and scared her without a real reason. Later, when she goes to speak to him, he tells her many contradicting statements that leave her confused. Lastly, during his interaction with his mother, he appears to be conversing with an invisible ghost which gives an impression of pure madness to his mother. Due to these actions, many assumed that he had gone crazy. However, these actions all had motive and aided his real intention which was to prove that his uncle was a murderer. As Hamlet stated, “ That I essentially am not in madness, But mad in craft.” (3.4. 188-190). During the time of his madness, he planned a play in which he obtained real proof that Claudius was his father’s killer. He also managed to deceive everyone and hid his true plan.
