Hamlet Laertes Character Analysis

Hamlet and Laertes are what you call a foil characters . A foil character is a character who contrasts with another character.something that is differnernt about Hamlet and Laertes is how they handle the thing that are thrown at them in life. Hamlet approaches a situation with more thought and strategy. Laertes is the type of person who will just assume that you did and there is no way you didnt do it. His use of smart remarks and double entendres reveal Hamlet to be a man who thinks before acts. It is revealed that Hamlet wants to return to England. Similarly Laertes wants to return to France . Laertes asks for permission and receives in addition to a lengthy advice from his father approval to leave. Hamlet on the other hand listens to his stepfather’s and mother’s will to stay in Denmark instead of following his heart’s desire. Laertes, like Hamlet, has a father murdered, and feels duty bound to avenge his death. All tho they die two different ways they were both killed by someone. Hamlet is the one who killed Laertes father when he was standing behind the curtian in Hamlets moms room, Hamlet mad his mom cry for help then Polonius makes a noise, and Hamlet mistakes him for someone else and stabs him. Hamlets father died a much different way. Hamlets father was killed by Claudius with poision, he poured it in hamlets fathers ear when he was sleeping in the garden. Hamlet would never know how his father died if the ghost of his dad, came back and Hamlet found him in the woods. Hamlet didnt believe the ghost at first because who would believe the ghost. The only difference between the killings of each of there fathers is that Hamlet did not mean to kill Laertes father. He only stabed him because he thought it was
