Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare around the year 1600. Hamlet is the longest play written by Shakespeare. The play takes place in the Kingdom of Denmark and is about one of Denmark’s princes, Prince Hamlet. The story is about how Hamlet gets revenge for his father’s murder. Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, murdered King Hamlet and took the throne and married the queen. The struggles that Hamlet goes through to finally achieve his goal of revenge show the tragedy that he has to endure. Hamlet is a tragic hero of the play for many reasons. Hamlet is a tragic hero because he is royal, his actions lead to his failure, and he misfortune is not deserved.
 Hamlet is the son of King Hamlet of the Kingdom of Denmark. Being of noble stature, Hamlet is able to use his position to help advance his goal of revenge. After Hamlet learns of his father’s murder and is asked to take revenge, Hamlet says, “Haste me to know 't, that I, with wings as swift as meditation or the thoughts of love, may sweep to my revenge” (1.5.29-31). Hamlet’s royal status does not effect the audiences view of him. Hamlet takes the information he learned from his father’s ghost and contemplates his actions. As a person he feels he could just end everything by taking his life, but as a royal, he should stand strong and seek revenge. These thoughts drive Hamlet to ask, “To be, or not to be, that is the question” (3.1.56). Hamlet understands his role and wants to avenge his father’s murder. Through the…
