Hamlet 's flaw as indecisiveness became more evident in the middle of the play in more than one form. After Hamlet met the actors that were there to preform a play, he formulated a plan and said, “The play 's the thing/Wherein I 'll catch the conscience of the king.” (II, ii, 600-601) Hamlet was not only indecisive about when he should act, but began to doubt Cladius ' guilt. This caused him to change the play the actors were to preform to reenact his father 's murder. When Cladius got up to leave the play when the murder scene came up this proved his guilt to Hamlet. This may have been a reasonable thought based on Hamlet 's beliefs but his unclear ideas about whether or not to kill Cladius only caused more problems in the future. When Hamlet was fighting with his mother and Polonius was behind the arras listening Hamlet said, “ 'How now? A rat! Dead for ducat, dead. '/ 'O, I am slain. '” (III, iv, 23-24) Hamlet thought it was Cladius behind the arras when he stabbed through it but it was Polonius he killed. Hamlet 's indecisiveness was the root cause of Polonius ' death, Ophelia 's madness and eventual death, and the conflict between Laertes and Hamlet. In conclusion, Hamlet 's indecisiveness progressed during the middle of the play to cause a lot of problems that shaped the end of the
