Throughout the play Hamlet, the relationship between these two characters change as the play progresses. At first their affection for each other almost makes it seem as they are inseparable. Hamlet starts acting strange with Ophelia, his lover, and she is concerned for him. They are two very different people and because of their actions their relationship fell apart. Hamlet's relationship with Ophelia throughout the play immensely changed due to events that have occurred.
When Hamlet is told about the ghost he wanted to see it for himself and decided to go with the guards. After his encounter with the ghost this is where Hamlet beings to act strangely. Ophelia is warned by her father Polonius and brother Laertes about Hamlet and that she need to stop seeing him. As time goes on Hamlet tells Ophelia that he never really loved her. In Act II Scene 1 Ophelia enters Polonius room and tells him that she has been horrified by the Prince (Hamlet). “He took me by the wrist and held me hard” ( Shakespeare) Ophelia is explaining to Polonius what Hamlet has done to her. If Hamlet had not treated Ophelia the way he did the play would have turned out different. But do to their actions, the relationship between Hamlet and Ophelia came to an unfortunate end as both of them lead each other to their own death. Throughout their relationship Hamlet made Ophelia believe that he loved her. “ You should not have believed me…” (Shakespeare) Hamlet even says that she shouldn't have believed that he actually loved her but as I stated before I do truly believe that he did love her.
