Hamlet and his Uncle Claudius were at odds as he was the one responsible for his father, King Hamlet’s death. Fortinbras fights with his uncle over the army that he has put into place to attack Denmark without the king’s permission. Fortinbras is one who acts, conquering lands even if there is much bloodshed. Hamlet, constantly thinking, is so overwhelmed with life that he is almost parylzed and causes him to fall into a state of depression, which is sometimes seen as ‘faked madness’. Some would say this faked ‘madness’ was a way of escaping reality. Fortinbras was seen as a person who had strong convictions and acted without having any second thoughts. Hamlet could bend at the slightest change because of his desire to ‘think things through. Both characters had secrets that were internally dealt with and acted upon in different timetables and ways. Hamlet kept the secret of his father’s murder and Fortinbras secretly brought together an army. Fortinbras had no ill will against Hamlet and thought highly of him as seen in the latter part of the play when he says, ‘bear Hamlet, like a soldier, to the stage; For he was likely, had he been put on, To have proved most royally.’ He, Fortinbras thought Hamlet would have made a great King. Hamlet, in his own words, had just as much admiration for him, as he nominates Fortinbras as the next king of Denmark: ‘but I do prophesy th' election lights on
