Hambrook's Argument Analysis

Hambrook’s argument is acceptable. Although I can disagree with some of the claims she makes, there are also a few points that we have in common. In the beginning of her article she states, “Men are absolutely frequent victims of domestic violence. Men are the victims of violence more often than women (¶ 3).” This statement is true when we are viewing a simple domestic violence case. Men may often engage in a brawl or heated argument with another man because it is just the nature of a man. Then she goes on to say that, “there are men who suffer abuse at the hands of their female partners (¶ 5).” I can concur with this statement because the issue at hand is that domestic violence against men happens more than it is noted. The judge was quoted as saying, “if they fill out the paperwork correctly, I always grant the restraining order (¶7).”
Because domestic violence is considered as verbal abuse, stalking, and physical abuse, this makes me question. How many of the 2000 reports mentioned by Hambrook are reports like this? It is apparent that law enforcers does not do a good job when it comes to these cases and do not take it serious enough to care to look at the paperwork completely. Corry, Fiebert, and Pizzey from their study, suggest that, “the English common-law practice of allowing an officer to make an arrest for a misdemeanor when he has cause to believe violence has occurred be reinstituted (p12).” I agree that there needs to be more responsibility on the first responders end and not have to wait until it can be proven in the courts. However, the world must first finally begin to believe that the issue of domestic violence against men is just as much of an issue as violence against women. The point is not how common it is but rather that it is very likely that it takes place and it is important to take notice and take
