Halt's Peril: Summary

Improved Essays
I am reading the 9th book in the Ranger's Apprentice Series called Halt's Peril. In the book Halt, Horace and Will are chasing down that last of the fake religious cult called the Outsiders. An assassin hits Will’s former teacher, Halt, with a poison arrow. Will gets thrown into a race against time to reach Malcolm, a powerful healer, before Halt succumbs to the poison; all the while the leader of the Outsiders is slipping away. In this journal, I will be characterizing Will as loyal and smart. Throughout the book, Will can be characterized as loyal and smart. To start with Will could characterized as loyal. One example is, when Will attempted to capture the last surviving Genovesan to find out what poison was used on the arrow that hit Halt. …show more content…
If they were to administer the wrong antidote it would kill Halt. They attempt to give the antidote to the Genovesan first, and if it is the wrong antidote the Genovesan would tell them that he was lying so he could get the correct antidote and survive. This proves Will is smart because either they will find out the correct antidote, either the Genovesan will die or live. The second reason Will can be characterized as smart is when, he collapses the cave. This quote helps to explain what is going on, “But across the cavern, Tennyson was escaping. He reached down and grabbed the box of explosive mud balls from Malcolm… He smashed against the jagged rocks at the base of the wall and Will had one final glimpse of his broken, lifeless body” (Flanagan 368, 368). This shows he is smart because if he did not throw the box of exploding mud balls that caused Tennyson to fall, then Tennyson would escape their grasp again. Will knows that if Tennyson were to escape, then he could start up the whole Outsiders cult again that they …show more content…
The first evaluation supports the ending of the book as great. The first piece of supporting evidence is, the battle that takes place in the cave. It was great because they threw Tennyson off his game at first by Halt posing as the ghost of King Ferris. After Halt tells the followers to leave Tennyson orders his men to attack. It helps make the ending great because it is a huge action scene and most people love to see a battle to conclude a book. It has Horace and Halt fighting back to back with Will shooting from above, and Malcolm throwing explosive mud balls. The second piece of supporting evidence is, Will’s discussion with Pauline. This quote helps to explain what happens, “But Will was shaking his head. He had been bothered by something ever since they had discovered which poison had been used… ‘But you didn’t, don't you see? You didn’t let him down,’ she said, and took him by the hand. ‘And I know you never will’” (Flanagan 385, 386). This part helps prove that the ending was great because it shows the bond growing between Will, a favorite character, and Pauline, another favorite character. It shows a mother son bond growing which is great because Will has never had a mother or father. This scene shows that a father/mother/son bond is growing with Halt, Pauline, and Will. The third piece of supporting evidence that shows the ending was great was when, Will receives Ebony. This quote

The protagonists of this book is Halt and Crowley of The Tournament at Gorlan. Halt and Crowley are two very different characters. First off, Crowley is jubilant person who is prone to whistling (like me) and cracking jokes. This is best represented on page 159, when he begins whistling on what he feels is a great morning. This scene also shows how ill tempered and cold Halt is towards most people when he says, "I had hoped that your new sense of responsibility would put an end to that painful shrieking noise you make between your lips."…
